Measuring

  1. Always use a metal tape measure. Cloth or plastic may stretch and provide inaccurate measurements.

  2. Record measurements in inches only.

  3. Record measurements width first, height second (W x H).

  4. Take all your measurements to the nearest 1/8 inch.

  5. Measure the exact width of every window in three different places (top, middle and bottom). Use the narrowest measurement.
  6. Measure the exact height from the top of the window opening to the bottom sill in three different places (left side, center and right side). Use the longest measurement for all products.

  7. Measure all windows, even if they look alike.

  8. Double check all measurements. Your blinds are custom made to your specific window size to ensure proper fit.

  9. If you have any questions when measuring, please call us at 1-877-382-7750 or contact us by e-mail at customerservice@betterblindstore.com

Determining Your Mount Type

Now you need to decide if you want to mount your window treatment Inside or Outside the window opening.

Inside Mount often provides a cleaner look but you must have the required unobstructed window depth in order to mount it. Each product has inside mount depth requirements and they can be found on the product page relating to the product.

Outside Mount is usually used when there is not enough depth for an inside mount or you wish to cover window opening and trim.

INSIDE MOUNT

OUTSIDE MOUNT

Outside Mount Application

Wall Mount: Using a steel tape measure, measure the width of the window (left to right). If possible, add at least 3”to this measurement to ensure maximum light blockage. This exact width size will be your width no deductions will be taken by the factory so make sure you give the exact width of the area you wish to have covered.

Wall Mount: Measure the height of the window (top to bottom). To this height add at least 3 1/2" for proper bracket room and overlap. A minimum of 2 1/2" is required for bracket placement at the top the rest is to minimize any light gap at the bottom of the window. You may add more to the measured height as you see fit.

Trim Mount: Measure the exact width of the trim, edge to edge, from the left side of the window trim to the right side of the window trim. The section of the trim that will be directly mounted to needs to be at least 2 1/2" tall and be a flat and solid surface so the mounting brackets can be mounted properly. You will also want to make sure the top section of the trim is level so your window treatment hangs properly.

Trim Mount: For the height on a trim mount, measure the trim's outside edge from top to bottom. Again, make sure the trim provides a flat, solid space so you can mount the blind to it.

Note: If you have a window sill that protrudes at the bottom of the window, measure from the top of the trim to the top of the sill this would be your height measurement.

Inside Mount Application

WIDTH: Measure the width of the window opening in 3 places (top, middle, and bottom). Take the smallest of the 3 measurements (rounded to the nearest 1/8 inch) and write it down. This is the width you will order. Do not make any deductions! The factory will make a small deduction from each side to allow room for the mounting brackets and/or to provide space for operation. If the top of your window opening is not the smallest measurement, you will need you specify your valance size.

HEIGHT: Measure the window opening height in 3 places (left, middle, right) only this time take the largest measurement (again rounded to the nearest 1/8 inch). This is the height you will order. The factory will make no deductions or additions to the height measurement.

1. Check for proper mounting depth: Inside mounts require a minimum window depth to properly mount a blind or shade. If you don’t have the minimum depth required for the window treatment you have selected , (see chart below) you will have to measure for an outside mount.
